really think about it...the adorable baby blankets...those cute hand sewn dresses and coats...the yarn haired dolls.. the wooden toys...those super hero capes...felted crowns...button ties...and felted play food...all these creative and unique items you bought off of etsy or at your local craft show...they could all be gone forever by february 10th...that's in just two short months. if you really stop to think about this impact...it's devastating. thousands and thousands of people will loose their sole income...their daily jobs...their passion...their love for creating those one of a kind handmade items that you love to buy because they are not from target or old navy....
this blog...my shop...my participation in shows and stores will come to a stop.

thanks for posting this dana... i'm vote #1371. i think it is hard for everyone to wrap their head around. i first read about it 2 weeks ago. it is sooo IMPOSSIBLE to believe, that i think most of us are in denial. or that we think surely it'll get taken care of by then. but oh my WORD i've read about it anywhere & everywhere - which is GOOD [publicity], but BAD in that it just makes it more real. i'm realizing that everything i love to give as gifts, all my favorite things i love to buy my kids & all my favorite things from my own childhood that i love - everything that is HANDMADE will become extinct. just the idea of that seems so surreal & like a bad dream...
what i'm trying to say :) is that i think because it's so surreal, you're going to have people [like me at first] that don't believe it'll happen. or that will think there are work-arounds [like my disclaimer idea]. or people that will think there's enough people writing congress & senators that "it'll get taken care of".
but... just try to imagine a world & a life & a home without this stuff. if YOU CANNOT IMAGINE A LIFE & A CHILDHOOD WITHOUT IT, then you owe it to your children, your nieces & nephews, your future grandchildren and of COURSE your favorite artisans & crafters to BELIEVE IT and do ONE thing towards changing it.
so thank you dana for not only bringing our attention to it, but assisting us with links, petitions & articles!!!!!! the inconvenience that all this takes to click on petitions, vote, read articles, and write our letters will take ... oh maybe an hour at the most. but hopefully it'll help us keep wonderful homemade toys & clothes [and the businesses that make them] for a lifetime ... and it'll have been worth that ONE HOUR!
rachel,
this is the exact reason why i wrote that second post about this. i'm so glad that you voted! i really can not imagine not being able to do the things that i have come to love and the ideas that i have yet to do. i can't imagine not meeting other fellow crafters like myself making unique items for children. i can't imagine not seeing these items for sale anymore. it breaks my heart to think that this might become a part of history rather then a piece of the future. there are so many people out there that are afraid of the same thing...they have sunk their whole life into their work..this is what they have come to rely on for income and some people have opened stores to showcase these handmade children's items...these too will close down. it's nation wide...not just my little shop or etsy...every where. it doesn't take long to VOTE...you just have to do it like you'd brush your teeth or make a sandwhich...you just have to do it. thank you again for taking the time to vote. it means a lot to me!
